Hello dear friends,
Today I wanted to share with you some artists I keep following and who inspire me in terms of paper cut and collage. I could mention here Matisse but unfortunately he is not on Instagram so we will stay with new and great actual artists. Here I will share only Instagram posts, so you can click on them to go directly to the post/artist page, in case you would like to follow them.
Ok, let’s do this!
1. YUYA
Yuya is probably my favourite paper cut and collage artist out there. From Japan, his work is a perfect mix between Mid Century Modern Art and Japanese Art. Also, his mix of colors is always perfect. This is very calm and meditative to me.
The last two images are the best to me: the collage style played with pen is also great on plates here. The mix between ink and the collage style brings such a mid century vibe. And the last one is for me a great example of mix between type and figurative drawing.
2. Stephen Smith
I think I already shared some work from Stephen Smith before but he is probably the best example of an artist that works with paper and can deliver great design for branding.
3. Andrew Hudson
Andrew’s work is more around letters and vibrant colors. He also use paint and cardboard for some more grungy Art. Again, check out how the letters are full of emotions and feelings. It may sound stupid that I say that but collage has this thing of bringing you back to the roots of imperfection but with a dose of great balance in terms of design and colors.
4. Few other works and artists noticeable
This is it for today. Collage, the way I like it, has something naive, something childish and I think this is why I see so many emotions in these works. There are so “alive”. And in these times of darkness we need these cuts, drawings, painting and vibrant colors.
Why not take a moment during the weekend to play with some color paper or old magazine and cut some pieces and try to do an abstract illustration or a lettering artwork out of it? You will be surprised how rewarding it is. If you do so, let me know, I want to see what you did!!
Enjoy your weekend and don’t forget to go out take a walk. This is the best medication against our difficult times.
Take care,
Francis
