New print and new online workshop!
The online workshops are back and I can't wait to teach lettering again :)
Hi everyone,
I hope you had a great week. Spring is coming and with it, mental health gets better :)
Today, I have several thing to share with you so let’s start!
New online lettering workshops!
I have been teaching lettering since 2016 but after the Covid period, I wanted to take a break. I did stop online but also IRL workshops, with some exceptions. But this year, I want to do it again. And I want to do the online ones again!
I don’t see many affordable live workshops online. Am I the only one? There are many many courses for everything, through different platforms like Domestika (like mine) or Skillshare. There are also the ones done directly by the designers. But in that case there are often really expensive. Too expensive to be honest. And not live!
Graphic Designers and Illustrators are not the richest persons and I find sometimes a bit elitist to ask several hundred bucks for an online course. I understand it does cost a lot of time to record these, and we have all different goals but I really think, as a professional, that education has to stay accessible to the maximum of people, while making possible to do some revenues.
So today I am happy to introduce you to my new online workshop, “Learn lettering the fun way!” which will take place on June 1st, 2024 of course, from 9:30AM to 5PM, Paris time. I will share with you foundations but also great exercices so you can express yourself and maybe start to get your own lettering style.
I did setup a whole page, with pictures of my last IRL workshops so you can see what people do practice and learn at my workshops.
I will be there to teach but also to help you during the exercises and there to answer your questions or doubts. I might also provide personal support after the workshop for those who would like to go further.
The price of the workshop is 129€. I tried to figure out an affordable price. It’s not too high and enough for me to make some profit. It is also limited to 20 people max. I think it is, here again, a good balance to be able to spend some time with all of you.
If you have any questions, just let me know, I will be happy to help, and really looking forward :)
New print!!
I have a new print available on the store. I did that design end of that year and I really wanted to make a print out of it. The partnership with Xtool was a good opportunity to create that poster.
I must say I am proud of that design because it “looks simple” and easy to understand while being emotional too.
I made 20 prints of it. This is a limited screen printed series. They are all signed and numbered and their size is 30x40cms on 300g/sqm paper.
Again, this is available for you on the shop :)
For both workshop and new print, and as usual, you are the first to know. I won’t communicate on Instagram and other social medias before next Monday. After, I can’t promise they both will be available for a long time :)
Inspiration of the week!
To finish this week newsletter, I wanted to share with you great inspiration I found out this week on Instagram. There is one font, one illustration and one blog post.
1. Bricolage Grotesque font
I recently found out of that font and I really like the different weights and widths it has. Studying more classic and casual type these days, I see through that work how I could bring some weirdness to letters while keeping the potential wide :)
2. Illustration from Perro y Arena
I shared it as a story on my Instagram account but wow these illustrations from PYA are incredible Actually their whole work is stunning. This is one of my favourite account these days.
3. Rothko vs The Robots
Handsome Frank had a great blog post last week about AI and it is interesting to have the thoughts of one of my favourite agent out there. And again, I think we need to keep positive about what is going to happen. It is going to cost jobs to many of us for sure, but I still believe that if we find ways to stay out of that shit by sharing a more personal style, with great identity and emotions, there might be a solution.
I share here the Instagram post of HF but here is the direct link to the article.
This is it for today. I hope you enjoyed the newsletter and I really hope you are going to be excited as much as I am about that new workshop.
I wish you a great and sunny weekend.
Take care,
Francis
