Thank you for sharing this and the links to the articles! It's so interesting, I didn't know about the effects on the brain waves but I knew I'm feeling a lot worse if I check the news or social media first thing in the morning :D
I bought an alarm clock so I don't take my phone in the bedroom anymore and it helped with not using my phone first thing in the morning but also not using it right before sleep.
Francis, I love this experiment and the awareness you build around reacting to these changes. Keep going and report back in a month and see if a longer-term test holds or improves your state of mind.
I'm getting more and more frustrated because I long for time to write, time for my creative life. I want to throw away my phone sometimes. As an ADHD hypersensitive, I can get trapped on my phone so easily.
I will definitely try more creative work on mornings to see if my focus improves.
Love this idea Francis – I had an absolutely terrible day today (not overall actually, but just in terms of productivity) so this post spoke to me a lot!
Maybe I should give it a try as well. Thanks for sharing!
I've started leaving it where I left it charging the night before for entire days.
I simply became more and more aware of how it would make me feel whenever I did pick it up and start surfing.
About a month ago, I simply walked down the hall to the little home office without it and I don't miss it at all. In fact, I decidedly feel better about my days.
Things don't need immediate responses as much as we've been trained to think they do.

Thanks Mike. Yes, it needs some time to see how worth it is. Just like morning pages for example.

Can we have Substack on analog version please!?
I love your work with cut shapes and type !
This is completely on topic for me, I appreciate your sharing. The process is the goal, is what I tell myself.
Happy to help :) Exactly!

Hi Claudio, not sure it works for you but you have nothing to lose to try :)
